What tools do you use to cut a necklace chain?
I know they sell small cable chains for making necklaces. They sell them in spools, and I was wondering what type of tools do I use to cut the chains into the desired length I want? I’m sure it is not scissors… But if you happen to know, please help me out here!

Get a pair of something called “diagonal pliers.” They really are wire cutters. They don’t tighten or loosen things, they just cut. Get them from the hardware or plumbing or automotive section, not the crafts and jewelry aisle. The cutters sold on the jewelry aisle are generally junk, unless you want to spend over $25.- or $30.- for a pair. Eeeek. If you go to the hardware section and get a pair of 6″ or 7″ diagonal pliers, it will cost you anywhere from $2.- to $5.- unless you go to the dollar store. My first pair lasted about 5 years and cost $3.- Not bad.
When you go to cut small chain, place a plastic lid (like comes on CoolWhip, etc) on the table to collect trash. Hold the chain over the lid, and then line up your pliers on the chain. When you’re ready to snip it, very loosely hold your hand around what you’re cutting. You’ll catch any flying pieces — they’re so small they don’t hurt you — and they’ll go right onto the lid to be thrown away later. If you try to cut over the regular trash can, you may end up losing good pieces of chain you meant to keep.
