mustache necklace: how should i make it?
my friend really wants a mustache necklace and i want to make her one for christmas. i’ve seen pictures online for them and i know i’m supposed to pain acrylic on it and buy the chain for it but i’m not exactly the craft expert. what is the actual mustache supposed to be made out of? wood? and how do i make the holes in the mustache to hang it off the chain? thank you so much.
i suppose you could use sculpey, which you can pretty much buy from any craft shop; it would be much easier to use than wood (which you’d either have to carve or cut using some sort of electric saw) and it’s not very expensive. you can use any clay really, but i’m fond of sculpey. 
if you do make it with sculpey (or even wood, if you’ve got the right tools) then you might also want to paint it afterwards with something which will give it a clear, plastic-like finish (i just go for the cheap version – clear nail polish). it really makes the piece look much more polished and professional.
as for holes, making holes in the appropriate places using clay shouldn’t be a problem. you can just use the end of a pencil or a crochet hook, or something similar. if you do go for wood however, i’d suggest using a drill to make the holes.
